After Federer, Nadal and Murray: Djokovic to play Laver Cup

Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic also joins the European tennis team’s superstar line-up at the Laver Cup in London in September.

The 35-year-old Serb will compete alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray in a clash with a world selection, organisers said.

“This is the only competition where you play in a team with guys you normally compete against. Joining Rafa, Roger and Andy – three of my biggest rivals – is a truly unique moment in our sport,” said Djokovic, who last won his 21st Grand Slam tournament title at Wimbledon.

The quartet has won a total of 66 of the past 76 titles at the world’s four biggest tournaments. The 40-year-old Swiss Federer played his last match so far in July 2021, having undergone a third operation on his right knee last August.

Two places are still open in the European team. Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada, the American Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman from Argentina have been nominated for the world selection so far. The Laver Cup will take place for the fifth time in London from 23 to 25 September. Team Europe has won every edition so far. In 2024, the Laver Cup will take place in Berlin.
