90.+9! Decimated Toffees celebrate Iwobi’s important goal

Everton FC have won again after four league defeats in a row and celebrate an important success in the relegation battle. The Toffees scored the winning goal in XXL injury time against Newcastle – and they did so while being shorthanded.

Even before kick-off, Everton coach Frank Lampard had to cope with bitter news: regular keeper Pickford was forced to pull out at short notice due to a Corona infection, with Begovic replacing him between the posts. In the game, the hosts, who had been goalless for a long time, were pushed back early on. Newcastle’s Wood was just denied a 1-0 lead (10th).

Flitzer causes extremely curious interruption

Newcastle were the better team but hardly created any chances. Everton did not have them for a long time anyway. Therefore, another action caused astonishment: In the 51st minute, a spectator tied his neck to the goal post and was only freed from the aluminium after several minutes. Several policemen carried him off the field.

Back in the game, Bruno Guimaraes had a good chance, but failed from an offside position against Begovic (69th). On the opposite side, Gordon registered Everton offensively – in the 78th minute.

Everton’s Allan sees red after video evidence

A little later, Allan caused an upset: The Brazilian hit Saint-Maximin very roughly on the ankle with his straddle (80.). After three minutes and a review of the video footage, referee Craig Pawson finally decided on a straight red instead of a yellow.

Due to the two long stoppages, 14 minutes of injury time were added. But Everton had one more: Joker Calvert-Lewin served Iwobi, who kept his cool in front of goal and scored the golden goal of the evening (90.+9). The Toffees and their supporters celebrated their first league goal in almost five games.

After a total of 117 minutes it was all over and Everton walked off as winners. Frank Lampard’s side remain in 17th place, just outside the relegation places. The gap to Watford, however, is now three points. Newcastle, on the other hand, lost for the second time in a row and must continue to look down in 14th place.
