Richarlison has to pinch himself at the moment as his career goes from strength to strength. Only a couple of years ago he was playing in the Brazilian lower leagues, before earning a move to the top flight team Fluminense. In his first season there, he played 42 games and scored 9 goals which caught the eye of a few admirers. Somewhat surprisingly, it was Watford that brought him into the Premier League.

Watford signed Richarlison
He went on to play for the Brazil U20 team and when his previous manager Marco Silva got appointed as Everton manager, Richarlison was his first major transfer target. Although he had only scored 5 Premier League goals in his season at Watford, a fee thought to be close to £50million was offered for the player, which Watford accepted. Silva had obviously seen enough of what the young Brazilian was capable of to be sure that he would justify the fee.
Great start to his Everton career
In his first three games for Everton, he has scored three goals and earned a call-up to the Brazil side. His dream season continued as he started for Brazil against El Salvador and marked his debut with two goals. The other scorers on the night were Neymar, Coutinho, and Marquinhos in a 5-0 rout. Not bad players to be amongst for the young player who could only have dreamed of playing with them a few years ago.

He used to sell sweets to make money for his family
Richarlison is flying high right now but it has not been an easy road for him. As a child, his family couldn’t afford his bus fare for football training, so he would stay at his uncle’s house that was closer to the training ground. He also disclosed in a recent interview: “I sold sweeties and ice-creams in the street and worked in the fields to help my parents. I had to do that because everyone was doing everything they could so that I could realize my dream of being a footballer. I’ve learned that you need patience, persistence, and faith in people to reach your objectives.”
It looks like that patience and persistence is really starting to pay off now for Richarlison and at 21 years old, he has plenty of time to make his story even more incredible.
