Does AS Roma have their “new” Paulo Dybala? As the Giallorossi announced on Tuesday evening, the Argentine top talent Matias Soulé (21) is coming from Juventus Turin for over 25 million euros. And the deal could get even more expensive
The decision-makers and investors at AS Roma are continuing to build a powerful team for the 2024/25 season. While negotiations are underway to sign La Liga top scorer Artem Dovbyk (FC Girona) in the near future, Matias Soulé is already a potential hopeful.
The 21-year-old could become the “new” Paulo Dybala in Rome. The Argentinian is a right winger, left-footed and impresses with his excellent technique. Last season, he showed glimpses of his enormous potential at Frosinone Calcio. Juventus loaned Soulé to the promoted club for the 2023/24 season, which had to return to Serie B straight away.
But Soulé was certainly not to blame. In 36 Serie A appearances, the dribbling attacking player was directly involved in 14 goals – he scored eleven himself and set up three others. Soulé had previously made a total of 15 Serie A appearances for Juventus (one goal)
Like Batistuta and Cassano once did
Now he wants to mature into a key player at Roma and play a central role in the hunt for titles. Expectations are high for the new number 18: in the official press release, the Giallorossi reminded us that Gabriel Batistuta wore this shirt number in the 2000/01 season – and later Antonio Cassano too
The transfer fee alone shows how much they think of Soulé at Roma. According to Juventus, the Serie A sixth-placed side from the previous season will transfer €25.6 million to the Bianconeri – payable within four years. The transfer fee could increase by a maximum of four million euros due to variable bonuses, making the total package worth almost 30 million euros.
According to reports, Soulé will receive a five-year contract in the Eternal City until June 30, 2029. There is enough time to play his way into the hearts of Roma fans – if Soulé does not prove to be as injury-prone as Dybala
