BMW has to bury its hopes of this year’s overall victory at the 24h Daytona prematurely – both M Hybrid V8s fell back after technical problems
At the halfway point of the 24h Daytona 2024, BMW was still within reach of victory – then fate took its course. After just under 13 hours, the RLL-BMW 40 (J. Taylor/Deletraz/Herta/Button) has made an astonishing comeback: The car was already laps down after a technical problem halfway through the race, but is now back on the lead lap. The Acura quartet benefited greatly from the numerous caution periods

The race has now been neutralized 13 times. The 01 Ganassi Cadillac (Bourdais/van der Zande/Dixon/Palou) was also involved in this. The team officially withdrew the Cadillac due to technical problems – the first and so far only retirement in the GTP class.

In the LMP2 category, the lead changes at will. The APR Oreca 4 (Milner/Catsburg/Bamber) follows in second place, just a little behind.
However, the teams and drivers seem to have been relieved of one worry: The forecast rain has so far failed to materialize and the rain radar currently gives no indication that the track could get wet in the closing stages.
