Miami – Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz has surprisingly won the Miami Open of professional tennis. The 18-year-old defeated sixth-seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the Masters 1000 event to celebrate his third tournament win overall on the ATP Tour.
Alcaraz had already eliminated last year’s winner Hubert Hurkacz from Poland in the semi-finals. Ruud, who had defeated German No. 1 Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals of the hard-court tournament in Florida, which is worth around 8.6 million US dollars, rarely found the means to counter the powerful game of the world No. 16, especially in the second set.
