129 goals are not enough: Lautaro remains loyal to Inter

Lautaro Martinez and Inter Milan – they go together and bring success. So it’s no surprise that the goalscorer and captain of the Nerazzurri has now extended his contract on a long-term basis

Inter’s history is littered with great strikers – above all record goalscorer Giuseppe Meazza (almost 300 goals in over 400 games). There are also guarantors from more recent decades such as Christian Vieri, Diego Milito, Mauro Icardi and Romelu Lukaku.

The latter was Lautaro Martinez’s congenial partner in Milan’s attacking center until last summer, but a reunion never came about. Instead, Marcus Thuram arrived from Gladbach – and also worked splendidly alongside Lautaro.

Why? Because Lautaro, who has been part of this traditional club since 2018, has also been captain for years and, with 129 goals in 282 competitive matches, already ranks seventh in the internal record scorer list, works

Lautaro wants to be “a role model “

No other player has shaped the success of the Nerazzurri in recent years as much as the now 26-year-old figurehead. On top of that, Lautaro has always identified with the club, the Interisti – and has reportedly turned down a number of offers over the years

So it should have come as no great surprise that the Argentine 2022 World Cup winner and 2024 Copa America champion picked up the pen again this Monday and extended his contract, which originally ran until 2026, until June 30, 2029. Inter and the striker, who according to media reports earns nine million euros plus bonuses in salary, are a perfect match.

“I’m proud of this contract extension,” Lautaro himself said in the official Milan statement, adding: “Still being here with my family after six years means a lot to me. I’m looking forward to giving my all for this club again to win something and continue to be a role model. “

“There should be many more goals “

In addition to the two Coppa Italia triumphs in 2022 and 2023, the Argentinian goalscorer was also crowned Italian champion this summer after winning the 2021 title – with a commanding lead over city rivals Milan. Only last year’s Champions League final loss (0:1 against Manchester City) is certainly still a downer.

But Lautaro wants to change that and simply work on “winning more and more with the team. I’m working hard every day to continue to improve. To have already scored so many goals in this jersey fills me with pride. But I want to score many more. “
