Alba Berlin has landed a shooting guard with NBA experience: Matt Thomas joins from Panathinaikos Athens
Thomas signed a one-year contract in Berlin, Alba reported on Monday. The 29-year-old played 121 games for the Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls from 2019 to 2022. Last season, the 1.91-metre guard played for the Greek Euroleague team Panathinaikos Athens.
Alba fans know Thomas from the 2019 Eurocup final, when the Berliners met Valencia with Thomas, who at the time was one of the main guarantors of the Spaniards’ title victory with 19 points in the decisive third game.
Thomas wants to be “not only a throwing specialist “
Alba sports director Himar Ojeda is looking forward to the new addition and is convinced that Thomas will show “all his basketball skills” in Berlin and “fits perfectly with us”. In Thomas’ eyes, Alba embodies “great professionalism and high standards. I really can’t wait to play for Coach Gonzalez.”
In Berlin, the US-American wants to be “not only a throwing specialist”, but “show all aspects of my game in a bigger role and thus contribute to the team’s success”. Having “German roots”, Thomas is “extra motivated to immerse myself in the culture, history and everything Berlin has to offer”.
