“100 per cent” surprise: Norwich City are ePremier League champions

The ePremier League finals have produced a surprise winner: Norwich City prevailed in dominant fashion and unbeaten.

Liverpool FC? Of course. Tottenham Hotspur? Possibly. But nobody expected Norwich City to be the unbeaten winners of the 2022 ePremier League Finals. Even Xbox player Damian ‘Damie’ Augustyniak, when asked if the title was a surprise, responded with, “Yes, 100 per cent. “

“Most people felt we would be third in our group at best. But to go through that group first and win the whole event undefeated feels really good,” the Pole added in the aftermath. Norwich also scored a magnificent 36 goals in seven matches.

Norwich dominant and nervy

While favourites like the Reds with Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt and Diogo ‘Diogo’ Mendes sooner or later fell by the wayside, the Canaries unerringly made their way into the final. Ten points in four group stage matches meant first place ahead of Chelsea FC and Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

‘Damie’ and Jack ‘GoalPoacher_’ Wignall did not let up in the knockout stages on Sunday, with Aston Villa suffering a 6-3 defeat in the quarter-finals. It was really tight against Leeds United in the final round, but Norwich kept their nerves under control even in difficult situations and won 2-1.

Back to Poland with the title

And so ‘Damie’ and ‘GoalPoacher_’ moved into the Grand Final against Brentford FC with Sam ‘SamBrwster’ Brewster and Peace ‘czohino’ Chirwa. The ‘Bees’ had previously beaten Crystal Palace only on penalties, the London club in turn having been superior to Liverpool FC in the quarter-finals.

However, the spectators did not get to see a close final: ‘Damie’ put a 3:1 lead against ‘SamBrwster’ with his unconventional 3-5-2 formation, ‘GoalPoacher_’ increased the overall result on the Playstation to 5:1. “It’s a crazy feeling,” said Augustyniak afterwards.

The ePremier League title was particularly important to the 23-year-old as he is unlikely to be able to defend it next season. “I’m moving back to Poland in the summer, so I wanted people here to remember me in the same way,” ‘Damie’ explained the significance of the success.
