Not all celebrities and in this case professional athletes take time off in their lives when they retire. Actually, there are a lot of famous people athletes including that start some form of business when they retire. There is obviously a difference when it comes to athletes and other celebrities because athletes retire at a young age. Athletes becoming entrepreneurs is pretty common. Examples being David Beckham and his famous fragrance line, Tony Hawk as a founder of Birdhouse Skateboards and so on. But we are here to focus on NBA players that turn into successful entrepreneurs. NBA players are usually ranked pretty high in these kinds of ranks. Here are the top five NBA players that have been successful both on the field and in business.

This top five list starts off Vinnie Johnson. Vinnie Johnson is considered as a hero in Detroit playing ten whole years for the Detroit Pistons. He was two time NBA champion with the Detroit Pistons in 1989 and 1990. After his time at the Pistons, as a sigh of respect and honor, the Detroit Pistons decided to retire his number 15 jersey. Being a champion on the field led Johnson to be a champion off the field as well. Today, Johnson is the chairman of the Pistons Group. This group builds top class assemblies for the biggest American manufactures. This organization is considered to be world’s largest Value Add Assembly supplier.

Number four goes to the big man himself, Shaquille O`Neal. I don`t think that I need to write down how big Shaq`s career has been because it is pretty well known to every basketball fan. He is arguably the best center to ever play the game. To even list all his basketball achievements would take me a couple of hours at least. He has played for a couple of teams during his successful career, winning the NBA championship four times and voted MVP three times. After retirement he has tried music, law enforcement, pro wrestling and much more. Being “big” in everything he has tried, the same would go for his business. Shaq owns gyms, fast food franchises. But the most notable business deals would be his investments in Google and Vitamin Water.

Third place on this list would go to Magic Johnson. If you would ask the best NBA players of the 90`s and early 2000`s who their idol was, most of them would say Magic Johnson. There is absolutely no need to write about his basketball career because ever true basketball fan would already know how huge it was. Five times NBA champion and six times votes as the MVP says enough about his huge career. Johnson continued his success of the field as well after retirement. He is now the CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprise, a company that owns franchises like Burger King, 24 Hour Fitness and Starbucks. In 2016 his company announced a deal with Sodexo, one of the biggest food service companies in the world.

Coming in second place would be, probably the best basketball player of today, Lebron James. With three NBA championship rings and seven MPV awards, he is rightly so considered to be “the king” in the NBA. Putting aside his enormous success as a basketball player, we can see big success as a businessman as well. James owns a marketing agency called LRMR. He also owns 1% of the Beats by Dre franchise and a small share amount of Liverpool FC.

Number one on this list should not come as a surprise as it is the GOAT (greatest of all time) himself, Michael Jordan. It is certainly safe to say that MJ is the best basketball player to ever play the sport. Having that title it is logical that he had enormous success in his career. He holds the record in the number of NBA championships which is six, and the record for most MVP awards with eleven. As a business man he is also the best of all of the NBA players. He has stakes at companies like Gatorade, Coca Cola, McDonalds, Chevrolet and much more. But his most notable work as a businessman is Air Jordan, a branch of Nike that earns them billions every year.
