With a new action-packed season just around the corner, all NBA fans will want to get a glimpse of each team’s prospects and chances of being serious contenders, as well as seeing which team has retained their biggest stars and which players have gone off to new pastures. Of course, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and players of similar stature are bound to continue their impressive performances and remain in the top 10, however, what really sparks the interest of most fans is which under-the-radar players should we focus our attention on and who is expected to take the game by surprise. We are going to take a look at just three of the many players who have the potential to break out as the new NBA superstars of the oncoming generation.
- Devin Booker – during the entire last season he has shown major outbursts of potential as a reserve for the Phoenix Suns especially by scoring 50% of his 3-pointers in the first few-dozen games of his career and then adding to that by wrestling his way into the first team. In the final stretch of last season Booker averaged 18.5 points, 3.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. During a successful stint in March, he raised his average to 28.4 points per game in 5 games and scored at least 30 points in three of those games. The Suns undoubtedly have a full plate with players like Brandon Knight, Tyler Ulis and Eric Bledsoe, but Booker has definitely already proven his worth and given a little more freedom and responsibility it is expected that we will see this player explode on the court sooner rather than later.
- Giannis Antetokounmpo – a player who for some is still under the radar although he definitely should not be, Giannis has already shown he can play serious ball at Milwaukee Bucks. Averaging 18.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 28 games after the All-Star Weekend, he has certainly shut the mouth of any doubters and justified Jason Kidd’s decision to use him as the primary ball handler for next season. I strongly suggest everyone to keep an eye out for this guy in the upcoming season.
- Clint Capela – With Dwight Howard leaving Houston, space has opened up for this 22-year-old to take over as the team’s starting Center. He has made a clear contrast between himself and Dwight Howard by embracing his role as a pick-and-roll center and becoming one of the best in the league in that position. Having in mind that he will be playing alongside James Harden, who is one of the best players of the pick-and-roll, you can bet your bottom dollar that the two of them will cause the Houston Rockets to be one of the best offensive teams this season. Watch out for this Swiss-international who is sure to be dominating the court this year.
There are certainly several others which are sure to surprise and excite everyone this season, but these three have made the biggest impact on me for now. One thing is for certain, we are blessed to constantly have new stars emerging each season and rejuvenating the league which is already filled with so many stars. We are definitely in for another action-packed season and I hope there is a star just waiting to explode in whichever team you support!!!
