The tournaments organizers were a little bit disappointed by the decision of the N0.2 player in the World, especially since the Rogers Cup is a Masters 1000 event and one of the most important tournaments on the calendar.
Soon after, the next two big contenders for the title, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, have both canceled their participations at the Rogers Cup.

The Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, informed the organizers, that due to the constant injuries he faced in the past (wrist injury is the most recent), he does not want to risk anything and wants to be 100% prepared for the Olympics. Since he played at this tournament last year, reaching the quarterfinals, his absence from this years tournament will cost him to lose 180 points on the rankings.
On the other side, Roger Federer will not lose points for not playing at this tournament, since he has not participated at the Rogers Cup in 2015, meaning that he has no points to defend or to lose. Federer stated that he is disappointed that he will not be able to play at the tournament, because he feels that it is the best for his body after the Wimbledon.
