Several weeks ago the sports world found out that Lauren Holiday, the wife of New Orleans Pelicans player Jrue Holiday, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. For the things to be even worse, it was revealed that she was diagnosed while pregnant and expecting a baby.
Fortunately for the Holiday family, Lauren gave birth to a healthy baby girl last week and now all of their focus is concentrated for the fight against the tumor, as she is preparing to have a brain-tumor surgery. Lauren is currently stationed at a hospital in Raleigh (North Carolina), where a team of best medical staff from Duke University is taking care of her. According to the latest news, the doctors believe that Lauren is expected to recover entirely after the surgery.
Jrue and Lauren met during their college days at UCLA, where they both played sports. Lauren played soccer at UCLA and is a two time Olympic Gold medalist with the USA national soccer team, while Jrue played basketball for UCLA and later played for several NBA teams. He is currently playing for the New Orleans Pelicans where he averaged 16.8 ppg and 6.0 apg last season.
In this extremely tough period of their lives, Jrue has made a decision to miss out on the preparations for the new NBA season with his New Orleans Pelicans in order to be next to his wife and support her through the upcoming surgery. The entire New Orleans Pelicans organization has expressed their support for the Holiday family. The Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps recently stated that Jrue is open to join the team whenever he feels ready for it and that right now the best thing for Jrue is to be next to his wife.
The New Orleans Pelicans head Coach Alvin Gentry has also shown a huge understanding of Jrues situation and expressed his support. He also told Jrue that basketball is the last thing he should now worry about and to focus only on his family. Gentry also added that in Jrues absence, Tim Frazier, Langston Galloway and Etwaun Moore should fill out the point guard position. Tyreke Evans and Lance Stephenson should also be able to step in and play some minutes at the point guard position if needed.
However, we truly hope that Lauren and Jrue Holiday will win their most important battle of their lives and that Lauren will fully recover from the Brain-tumor surgery.
