Danny Makkelie would lead the cup match between PSV and VVV-Venlo on Wednesday evening, but was picked up from that duel. The KNVB has decided to replace the referee’ as a result of the commotion’ with the Jochem Kamphuis replacement ear.
The 34-year-old Makkelie has also been removed as a video referee at the cup competition between PEC Zwolle and NEC, scheduled for Tuesday evening. De Telegraaf announced earlier on the day that Makkelie had received a considerable sum of money from Jaap Uilenberg, as a bridging loan for the renovation of his new home.
Former referee Uilenberg is the coach of Makkelie and is also a UEFA referee’s committee member:’ There has been no question of criminal acts, but it goes without saying that the image of a dependency or preferential relationship in this highly undesirable’, as one KNVB spokesperson told the newspaper.
The Football Association took’ disciplinary measures’ against Makkelie, although it is unclear exactly what they meant. Furthermore, the coach relationship between the arbitrator and Uilenberg was deleted, the intention was to tighten up the’ rules of conduct’ and it was announced that the incident would be reported to UEFA. Makkelie, who quickly repaid the loan to Uilenberg, reacted with surprise at De Telegraaf’s punishment of the football association.
I had the opportunity to buy a house that I had been looking for for a long time and where I could live with my parents. I attach great importance to that. This was a short-term loan that has now been repaid. I really wonder: what is the problem? I have absolutely not seen the seriousness shown. The sanction imposed on me by the KNVB for this bridging is, in my opinion, unjustified.
A sensible decision by the KNVB?
