Just as we thought that there will be no more surprises as we are coming close to the final days of the US OPEN, the Japanese best tennis player Kei Nishikori proved us wrong defeating one of the biggest favorites to win the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, Andy Murray!!!

After nearly 4 straight hours of great battle, Nishikori managed to defeat Murray in five sets with 1:6, 6:4, 4:6, 6:1, and 7:5!!!

Although everyone saw the Britt Murray in the finals, considering his great run of 27 wins and only 1 loss, that started after he lost to Novak Djokovic in the Final match of the French Open, Murray failed to reach those expectations and ends the year with „only“ 1 grand slam title (the Wimbledon).

Murray started off the match perfectly, winning the first set with 6:1, but during the second set it started raining, forcing the players to take a break, which helped Nishikori to relax and gain back his focus. After the break, the World’s No. 7 started playing much better and won the second set with 6:4. However, Murray was able to turn the momentum into his favor, winning the third set with 6:4. Just as everyone thought that the No. 2 on the ATP list would finish the match in the fourth set, having two break points in the third game of the fourth set, the referee requested from Murray to repeat his serve after some minor problems with the speakers. From that moment on it seemed like everything started falling apart for Murray.

Known for his short temper, Murray lost his focus quickly and started arguing with the judges and supervisors, causing him to lose point after a point, and in the end to lose the fourth set with 1:6.

The Japanese tennis player continued his great performance in the fifth set, winning two straight games, after which Murray regained his focus and won the following two games. The two tennis players showed a lot of ups and down in the deciding set, but more focus in the 12th game, prevailed on the Japanese side as Nishikori forced Murray to make some unforced errors in the deciding moments and win the match.

Nishikori will now get a chance to reach the finals of the US OPEN, where he played two years ago, losing to Marin Cilic. His opponent in the Semis will be the better player from the duel of Stanislas Wawrinka and Juan Martin Del Potro!!!
