Chelsea and Real Madrid reached an agreement on the transfer of Álvaro Morata in July. The Londonians, who reportedly paid EUR 85 million, were, among other things, sold Manchester United. The 24 year-old rush hour confirmed in an interview with the Daily Mail that he was in the Mancunians’ interest.
I had several offers this summer. Not only of Chelsea and Man United, but also of other competitions.I had it well for each other. The most important and best conversation I had was with Antonio Conte. He wanted me to have.I didn’t know at the beginning of the summer that Chelsea was interested, thought they wanted to go for another player, perhaps for Romelu Lukaku or someone else.I didn’t know and therefore did not know whether Chelsea was an option. But I’ve always wanted to play for Conte again and again.
I worked with him for two months, but it felt as if I knew him forever. When he wanted me to have it again, I didn’t have to think twice.I’ve done everything possible to make the deal possible. When I spoke to Conte, I said,’ when I leave Real Madrid, I only do so for Chelsea’,”says Morata, who so far scored three times in four Premier League competitions for his new employer. With Chelsea, the international will take on Arsenal next Sunday.
Morata went through Real’s youth education and in his first four seasons he came to 52 official duels, in which he scored 11 times. In the summer of 2014, the Spaniard left for Juventus for twenty million euros, where he reached 27 goals in 93 official competitions.A year ago, Real chose to activate the EUR 30 million buy-back clause, partly because the attacker was seen as a player who could earn a lot of money in the future.
Although Morata had 20 goals in 43 official duels and played an important part in Real Madrid’s successful season, he was not undisputed for Zinédine Zidane and the club did not want to say’ no’ to Chelsea’s bid of 85 million euros. The rehearser often opted for his compatriot Karim Benzema, even though his moyenne was lower than that of Morata. The latter signed on Stamford Bridge until mid 2022.
Do you think Real Madrid is sorry about the sale of Álvaro Morata?
