Manchester City and Manchester United were already in opposition to each other on the transfer market in January when it came to the question of where Alexis Sánchez would continue his career and there is a good chance that the two major powers from the north of England will meet again this summer.
The number one and two of England are both looking for a controlling midfielder, as the successor of Yaya Touré and Michael Carrick respectively, and have both turned a blind eye to Fred van Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainians, who will try to defend a 2-1 lead against AS Roma in the eighth Champions League finals on Tuesday evening, seem to have already accepted that the Brazilian is working on his last months at the club.
Fred will leave in June and if he doesn’t go to Manchester City, it will be Manchester United. He is ready for the best leagues. Besides being very good, Fred is also extremely professional,”explains Sergei Palkin director of Corriere dello Sport. The 25-year-old midfielder has been playing for Shakhtar since 2013 and has been active for Ukrainians 145 times since then.
Shakthar seems to have been able to make a nice job on Fred, which was taken over from Internacional five years ago for fifteen million euros. In January, Manchester City was already behind his services and had a bid of supposedly EUR 50 million in mind. The competition from Manchester United can further push up the transfer price for the Brazilian, which is still fixed until mid-2023.
Which club does you think Fred can best use?
