It has been a unexpected journey in the EPL this season with some weird outcomes. Leicester City is leading the table and Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are all set to miss out on a top-four finish. An astonishing fact is that none of the top four goal scorers in the league (up to date) are from clubs who finished in the top 4 last season and only one player is from the club who finished in the top 10 last year (Harry Kane).
The race to the Golden boot will go right down to the wire with Jamie Vardy leading the charts with 19 goals. Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku are on his tail with 16 goals each. While both Aguero and Ighalo are not very far away with 14 and 15 goals to their names respectively.
Vardy has been splendid for Leicester and has kept the dream of his fans alive. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United have all been victims of Vardy’s instinctive finishing. Jamie also broke the record of Van Nistelrooy by scoring in 12 consecutive EPL games. There is simply no stopping the England Striker.
Harry Kane had a slow start to the season with only 1 goal in the first 9 EPL matches, and people started calling him a one season wonder. Since then, the Tottenham striker has scored 15 goals in 18 games, proving his critics wrong. Opposition teams have no answer to the striker’s clinical finishing and his superb coaching abilities.
Aguero’s brilliance can judge by the fact that he is up there amongst the top scorers despite missing 7 EPL games due to injury. The Argentinian hitman can destroy the opposition single-handedly on his day. He scored 5 goals in a single game against Newcastle this season, and this is why he is one of the most feared strikers in the League.
Lukaku and Ighalo are also in the mix and have an outside chance of winning the prize. Both of their clubs are fighting for a top-half finish and would want their strikers to continue their good run of form.
The average number of goals needed to win the Golden boot in the EPL has been 22. While, the record of most goals scored in an EPL season is 34 set by both Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. Vardy, Kane, and Aguero are all helping their clubs to compete in the Title race, and the winner of the Golden Boot might as well win the League for his respective club.
