Javier Mascherano cannot take action for Barcelona for one month. Tuesday evening, the Argentinean defender suffered a hamstring injury during the lost practice interland against Nigeria, according to the Catalan superpower on Wednesday via the official channels.
Barcelona reports that Mascherano is unlikely to be able to play four weeks after medical specialists from the club have examined the routiner. Mascherano was injured during the duel with Nigeria, but completed the match, which was played in Russia and won with 2-4 by the Nigerians.
The 33-year-old defender doesn’t have to count on a base place under Ernesto Valverde this season, but the Argentinean has already played ten matches. Mascherano is said to have insisted on a departure from the inside rooms and would have been fond of returning to his native country to play at River Plate. Liverpool among others would also be interested in the defender.
