Cesc Fàbregas threatens to miss a final tournament with Spain for the first time since 2004. The midfielder was for years a fixed value in the national selection of the southern European country, but his last interland dates back almost two years ago. Federal coach Julen Lopetegui left Fàbregas behind the EK in France, but the playmaker hopes to be able to play in the coming months for the World Cup of next summer in Russia.
The midfielder of Chelsea played his last interland on the EK under Vicente del Bosque in the lost eighth final against Italy. After the tournament in France, Del Bosque was replaced by Lopetegui, who usually prefers other midfielders,”I’m not a player who throws the towel in the ring. Somehow I still have quiet hopes, but I know that it will be difficult,”says Fàbregas in conversation with Goal,” I have not been involved in the national team for a long time.
In March 2006, Fàbregas made his debut for Spain and now stands at 110 foreigners. He became European champion twice with La Furia Roja and won the World Cup in 2010. At the moment, the technician says he is focusing on his club Chelsea, but continues to hope for an invitation from Lopetegui,”It might not be strange to call on a player who has been in the selection for fifteen years. Of course they know me, but for now I concentrate on my club. In the end, it is impossible to receive an invitation if you are not performing well for your clubs. When I am called, that is perfect. Otherwise I will encourage the team from home.
